Sheep Care Clinic: Raising Sheep 101 When: To Be Announced, 2010 Where: Ledgewood Farm. Directions Cost: TBD A hands on clinic for novice shepherds covering general information on raising sheep. Particular attention will be paid to managing the Icelandic breed, although this clinic will provide very valuable information to those considering other breeds as well. Topics and hands on activities will include: advice on how to go about buying your first sheep, conformation, breeding, selection and culling, fleece skirting and selection, parasite management, hoof trimming and other supportive care. We will watch a DVD of an ewe on our farm giving birth and discuss lambing time management as well. Everyone will also get a chance to practice putting up and taking down portable electric sheep fencing. Participants will leave with a vast wealth of resources and confidence in handling and managing their new flock. Please call or email to register.
